Electromagnetism Course

Electricity and magnetism once seemed like completely separate phenomena. Through hands-on experiments, students retrace one of the great scientific journeys of the 19th century, following the remarkable path that gradually revealed an unexpected connection between these mysterious forces.

By the end of the course, students will be comfortable designing and carrying out their own investigations of electricity and magnetism — creating magnetic fields with circuits, mapping invisible field patterns, making increasingly reliable predictions, and using experimental evidence to explain how electricity and magnetism are connected.

How the course works:

Live online classes: Twice weekly (Mon/Wed 4–5pm EST)
Small group: 12 students maximum
Slack support: Ongoing support and discussion between classes

Physics 4 Life courses are built around experimentation beyond the live classes themselves. Students should expect to actively experiment, share discoveries on Slack, engage with classmates, and arrive to class ready to discuss what they found. Most students naturally spend roughly 1–3 additional hours per week exploring ideas and continuing investigations between classes, though this naturally varies depending on curiosity and how deeply they pursue their questions.

What families have said

“Seeing my 9-year-old casually build circuits and plot graphs is blowing my mind!”

“The support through the Slack channel has been amazing.”
